WHY: Watch D.O.G.S. is a national organization designed to provide positive male role models and an extra set of eyes and ears to the school. Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at school. You must attend one orientation to be able to sign up.
*** Those in attendance will have first priority for sign up dates.

Ronald McDonald House
We need your help! We are collecting donations for the families at the Ronald McDonald House all week for Kindness Week, February 13-24. Please place your items from the Wish List in the bins before and after school each day. The bins will be located at each gate and near the lunch tables.
Some of the items needed are included on the attached list.

Pennies for Patients
We have one more week left for our latest community service project, Pennies for Patients. It may not seem like your change will make a difference but it adds up.
Blood cancers are one of the most common forms of childhood cancers. Funding is desperately needed to find a cure so… search those couch cushions or car floor and turn them into your teacher by Friday February 24.
We are looking for parents interested in leading a VEX Robotics team in grades 3-5. For more information, please contact Mr. Tanioka at firstname.lastname@example.org.
School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs)
Every school in California is required by state law to publish a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) by February 1 of each year. The SARC contains information about the condition and performance of each California public school. Our school’s SARC is available for review by clicking on the following link:

The LRES Art auction is coming up on March 24th @ Arroyo Trabuco Golf!
The event is a casual adult only event featuring amazing art by our kids, a silent auction, appetizers and music! Money raised from this event will benefit STEAM programs at LRES! Tickets will cost $30 per person or $55 for two tickets! Ticket can be purchased online at lrespta.com.
We are looking for donations for the silent auction as well as sponsors for the event! For more information forms went home in the Thursday folder, are also available in the office or online at LRESpta.com.

The Science Fair is coming!
Thank you to all who came to our informational meeting on the first. We are very excited to see so much enthusiasm! If you were unable to attend and want to participate you can get registration forms and the planning guide one of two ways.
1. Starting Monday 2/6 students can ask their teacher for them.
2. You can print them at home by visiting the school website at

All Students who want to participate must submit a completed registration form to their teacher no later than February 24th. No late registration forms will be accepted.
The Science Fair will be held in the MPR on Wednesday March 29th from 5-7 pm. All planning guides and project boards must be submitted on March 29th before 1:30 pm for judging. All winners will be announced at the Fair! If you have any questions you can contact Laura Warhurst at email@example.com
Reading Counts…Volunteers Needed
Are you looking for a way to get involved? The awesome Reading Counts Program is in need of several volunteers. We are looking for some fun folks to assist with prize fulfillment, marketing and volunteers to oversee the computer lab on Wednesdays BEFORE and AFTER school to help monitor those kids taking online tests for the program. The Science Fair is coming!
An informational meeting was held on Wednesday, February 1st at 2:05 in the MPR. Registration information and instructional packets were passed out and reviewed. The LRES Science Fair Timeline (suggested dates), Registration, and Planning Guide discussed is ATTACHED BELOW.
New this year….
- All students may earn Extra Credit for participation potentially allowing them to earn a 4 in Science on their report card.
- All entries will be judged and winners will be announced at the science fair. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from each grade. Winners will receive prize money.
- 1st place – $100
- 2nd place – $75
- 3rd place – $50
– February 24th – Choose a problem to investigate and turn in Science Fair Registration Form
– March 29th – Turn in your completed projects

LRES PTA Science Fair
April 28th, 2015

Is there something you have always wondered about but never had the chance to investigate?
Why does milk curdle?
How does water move through a leaf?
Why does the moon have craters?
Now is your chance to find the answers!
Registration for LRES’s 2015 Science Fair is going on
March 19th – April 14th, 2015. (April 3rd is the last school day before spring break)
Please visit www.lresptasciencefair.shutterfly.com(password: lionpride) to complete the online registration form and to learn everything you need to know about conducting an experiment.
- Students choose their own topic and complete their project at home. Projects can be completed individually, with LRES siblings, or with a group of up to 2 other LRES students.
- Participation is FREE this year. All participants are responsible for purchasing their own backboards for project presentation. Boards must be a tri-fold project board so it can stand on its own.
- All participants will receive an award of accomplishment for their hard work!
- The registration form must be completed by Tuesday, April 14th. Registration can be completed online or you can complete the attached form and turn it in to the front office or your teacher.
All LRES students and their families are invited to tour and view the projects at the Science Fair on April 28th. There will also be a science show by Mr. Fogg and dinner for purchase, so mark your calendars for this fun celebration!
